Between House Viewings - In and Around Spello
Our house hunting adventure continues with several more viewings. We saw a variety of properties in different parts of the city. Most in our price range were too much of a project for us and those that weren’t a project we’re just too small for storing bikes and possibly having visitors at the same time. So the clear winner by a long shot was the Piazza Kennedy property I talked about previously. It is in good condition, two real bedrooms and a third room that could be a small bedroom or a bike storage room. A real kitchen and a full updated bathroom and a half bath that maybe we can make into a full. So offer made and accepted and now we wait for the closing. We will actually get into the apartment before we leave in November.
Again, the picture of our lovely apartment. We own the floor with the small flower filled balcony.
So during our couple weeks of viewing properties, we manage to get some nice bike rides in. We did a ride to an abbey outside of Foligno that we had never seen before - Abbazia di Santa Croce in Sassovivo.
Another day we rode to Gualdo Cattaneo. The City’s motto is The City of Bees. It is a really lovely town and is completely non touristy which is reflected in the price of 4 euros for two cappuccino and two pastries. It was a tranquil spot for a coffee break with a great view.
We spent a weekend in Foligno to see their famous Quintana. It is a jousting event pitting ten of Foligno’s neighborhoods in competition. Each neighborhood has their coat of arms and colors. Each has a drumming crew. The night before the riding event there is a parade. There were over 800 costumed people in stunning medieval clothing. It was quite a spectacle and the drumming in the narrow stone streets pounded right through your body!
We always enjoy Foligno which is full of outstanding restaurants and has some very beautiful neighborhoods.
We took one day to ride to Assisi as I wanted to visit A Gallo watercolor store where they make their own natural honey based watercolors. I can’t wait to have a house so that I can buy some!
Then we rode around the back side of Assisi and Mount Subasio with a quick stop in Armenzano.
Another day we rode to Nocera Umbra. Another very pretty and non touristy town.
The city’s motto is the city of water and there were a lot of fountains like this road side on the old Roman road one where people were stopping in their vehicles to fill up their water containers.
We rode to Foligno again on a rainy morning to see the start of , La Francescana An antique bike race and event.
There were lots of antique cars at the start as well.
We rode out into the countryside and caught the event arriving in Bevagna.
Every day some time was spent walking around Spello admiring her beauty. We can’t believe we will be part of this community.
