On The Road Again! - Spello to San Severino to Cingoli
Despite missing our kids and Brad after an action packed visit, we are eager to do some riding to new terrain. The thought of being on the road in this brisk fall weather is exciting. The weather forecast couldn’t be more perfect. Highs in the upper 60’s and cool nights.
We thought we would try to continue our planned route before the September 15th flooding and some rainy days grounded us. So we made a few reservations to bring us into Le Marche and doing a loop through some new turf but also an old favorite or two.
We said goodbye to Spello and filled our water bottles at the fountain in front of our apartment one last time.
We rode the quick few miles to Foligno to catch the train to San Severino Marche which seemed like a good spot to start our Le Marche tour.
We had spent a few nights in San Severino Marche earlier in the trip and it is one of our favorite towns. So it was nice to walk around that evening and enjoy the ambiance once again. We did a light dinner with some grocery store food and could not resist these porchetta flavored potato chips. It was amazing that they captured the flavor of porchetta in a chip but we also decided it was a flavor that didn’t need to be in a potato chip.
The next morning after a breakfast at our favorite cafe in town, it was time to start riding. Tonight’s destination is Cingoli.
It was a lovely ride with nonstop beautiful vistas of the rolling hills and small farms.
We took a break for a coffee and pastry in Apiro and the first indicator that we were once again off the beaten path was the four euro bill for two coffees and two pastries. Along the same vein, we had pizza by the slice that night and between the two of us, we ate nine slices of pizza, had two bottled waters and a large beer and it was 20 euros.
Then onto Cingoli where we were too early to check in so we stopped at a bar with the famous balcony of Le Marche view which Cingoli is known for.
Then we met our host Giacomo, who spoke no English but we managed to partially communicate on a number of subjects including a bit about his purchase and restoration of this property. It is called il fienile which translates to the barn. It is a beautiful place. We had a delightful evening wandering around the town.
One thing we enjoyed was seeing all the teenagers in their souped up apes. I have never seen so many of them. I took a picture of one racing by and the two young men were grinning and I got a big thumbs up.
Overall, a perfect day.
