Into the Crypt and Other Journeys Deep in Umbria
Although our Airbnb listing stated that there is underground secure parking available which I assumed would allow bikes to be locked. Wrong! Our host was shocked that we had bikes and was very clear that they could absolutely not be brought into the apartment. So thus delay in checking us in as she searched for a solution. A friend of hers allowed us the use of his cellar. We are fondly referring to it as the crypt. It is partially underground and is actually inside of a Roman acqueduct. The owner even showed us where the resident scorpion lives. First pic is the street entrance. The second inside.
So first order of business is getting our bikes tuned up after three years in a hot box in Rome. We pedal to Cicli Clementi where we purchased our bikes and Simone, the proprietor remembers us and gets our bikes ship shape and of course suggests that we should purchase some new bikes. He even picks out one for me and Jim. Later Shawn is admiring one of the bikes. Simone asks her, Ti piace? (You like?). Shawn says yes. Simone says no, that is Jim’s bike. Simone in the center.
Finally we head out into the countryside. Destination Montefalco. A lovely town with spectacular views of the Spoleto Valley.
After a lunch in Montefalco we plunge down the hill heading towards Bevagna one of our favorite towns. You feel like you are entering a fairytale medieval village.
Evening walks around Spello and enchanting views.
Even some live entertainment right outside our window.
This refreshes so many memories of our tour with you in 2019. What a place to explore again. Have fun, Doug and Shawn!
